Our team is committed to constructing an inclusive framework to support the Black community within York University. We aim to accomplish this vision through sharing culturally relevant knowledge, resources, and community support in the pursuit of social justice and change. We have developed our project from a position of allyship. For our team, allyship is recognized as the active and consistent practice of using our knowledge, from a position of privilege, to participate in social justice. We recognize that being an ‘ally’ is not an identity but rather a lifelong process of making a concentrated effort to understand the unique struggles or experiences of the Black community.
